Ever since her first encounter with Sonic the hedgehog, Amy Rose had begun to enjoy likening her life to a fairy tale- one about adventure, and damsels, and one with daring escapades. One where the fair maiden is swept off her feet and carried by the Prince's to safety as he taunts the evildoers, brimming with confidence and a grin. So perhaps the best way to begin this story would be as she would, if she were writing this.
Once upon a time, there was a young girl hedgehog called Amy Rose. She liked to think of herself as a bit princess-like, but to be honest she was far too in-charge of her life to be called one, even at age twelve. In many other respects she fit the bill well enough; she was an orphan (suitably tragic), she liked dresses and shoes and shopping (suitably pretty), she was a feminine shade of pink (suitably a girl), she liked small animals (suitably cute). However, princesses do not generally attack the 'bad guys' with giant hammers, so as I said, it isn't an entirely suitable description.
When the non-princess Amy Rose was nine years old she met her prince. When she was ten, she left her home and went to find him again, even if it was just for a moment. And when she was twelve, she found him. And that's where this all starts.
But let's backtrack a little. Amy Rose had grown up on a planet just outside reality as we know it called the Little Planet, a place where nothing likes to make sense and time is especially rebellious. The place didn't even bother to obey the idea you could get to places that existed, or at least, not usually. She'd spent her whole life there, reading her cards, looking at the stars and practicing her attacks on her (long-suffering) friends. As I said, she had no family, and she never had, but that was no problem, because contrary to it's own rules the Little Planet was small and the community tight-knit. So she was happy, but above all, she had seen, over the years, just how much one tiny thing, past and present, could change a million big things. She'd even seen it through experience but shhh, that's a secret. It was an accident, she swears! And it's not like it hurt anyone anyway, even if the grass in that area never would grow properly... Oh, but that's not important. Anyway.
That's what this story is about. No, not that grass. Really, that was just me being silly.
Change.
One little one.
One difference to another universe, one change to what was likely to happen, what you might say should have happened. But hey, she's not complaining. She didn't have too bad a time out of it, after all. And hopefully you shan't either, but I warn you-
Hold on tight.
